Birn Brothers

These beautiful cards were put out by Birn Brothers, a London-based firm, and
are typical of their beautifully embossed and gilded work. According to Byatt,
the firm began in the late 1880s and they began publishing postcards in 1903.
A LEAP YEAR GREETING
This is Leap Year so I'm told
Then pray don't think me over bold
If I don't waste much time:
And so this postcard
I've dispatched
That if not otherwise attached,
To ask you if You'll be mine?

A LEAP YEAR GREETING
As you seem somewhat timid dear
And bashful too withal
I take this opportunity
Now Leap Year doth befall;
As you don't ask if I'll have you?
No other may I see
Than to assert my Leap Year rights
And ask Will You have me?

A LEAP YEAR GREETING
Leap Year, ah-me I'm supposed
to propose
But don't know the way to begin it,
I'm bashful, and shy but at least
I will try
After all there is nothing much in it
I'll simply just say, and please don't forget it
That if you'll be mine you'll never regret it.

A LEAP YEAR GREETING
Consider the time I've been waiting
And you've never spoken a word,
Do you think it can go on forever
If so it is quite too absurd
Thank goodness it's Leap Year
so now is the time
So don't shilly shally, say
Will you be mine?
