Leap Year 1912

I did not realize Auburn also did a Dutch Kid series ,
until I found a card advertising it. The backs of
the cards can be quite
different, but the front of the cards are labeled "Leap 1912 Year" and
show
Dutch children in clogs. They all
have pidgin sayings like "If you vasn't so var avay I mit haf somting
real niee to say to you, yet."
So-called Dutch
cards
were quite popular to send and appear for a
variety of holidays.
I discovered these cards were by Auburn when I found a
duplicate to a card I
already owned with the
following typed on
the back:
|
|
|
"This Card is a SAMPLE of our 'LEAP YEAR DUTCH KIDS'
No. 519, 20 designs. Price, POSTPAID, 55(cents) per 100[.]
NOTE:-- Cash orders ONLY are shipped prepaid at our expense.
This number is put up
in assorted packages of 25, 50,
and 100.
We do not break packages[.]
AUBURN POST CARD MANUFACTURING CO, AUBURN IND." |
|
These cards were printed in both black and white and
blue and white. They re unsigned and appear
to be from watercolors. While they claim to have twenty cards, I have only
seen six in this series. |
