Joseph Asher & Co.

According to Byatt, the firm Joseph Asher & Co. was
set up by a young German immigrant in London in 1906.
At the beginning of WWI, the government of England sent
Asher, along with many other Germans in England, to
internment camps, effectively shutting down his company.

Asher's main artist was Donald McGill, the illustrator of this
Leap Year series. Presumably while Asher was in internment,
McGill did another series for Inter-Art. Donald McGill had a
long a productive career and lived from 1875 until 1962.
